2020 Geneva Motor Show - 17 new cars_#2

The 2020 Geneva Motor Show has been officially canceled, but some manufacturers will conduct press conferences and new car unveiling events through live streaming. I introduce various new cars that were planned to be unveiled through the Geneva Motor Show.

 

10.Audi 4th generation A3 sports-back

The fourth-generation A3 sportsback, whose prototype-type photos were released, said it will employ the latest Quattro system. The clutch is positioned in front of the end of the propeller shaft, or axle differential, to disperse the load on the axle. Inside the clutch is a plate operated by oil. Metal friction rings are placed at the rear in pairs, which mesh with clutch housing rotating with propeller shafts. Another ring engages with the output shaft to the differential unit of the rear axle.

The Quattro system normally drives the front wheels when driving. If the front axle loses traction, the driving torque is immediately transferred to the rear axle. The front and rear drive distribution is switched to a maximum of 0 to 100 depending on driving conditions. The ESC has three modes, On, Sport and Off, where it is said that drift is possible on a road surface with a low coefficient of friction. Three types of damper characteristics are employed for active suspension. The control unit calculates the signal in seconds below the comma and adjusts each damper to meet road conditions, driving conditions and the driver's demands.

 

11.Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid

Toyota adds its first plug-in hybrid model to RAV4. Outside the vehicle, a plug-in hybrid only grille design is applied, and tires are covered with 18-inch or 19-inch dedicated aluminum wheels. The interior features a highly-acceptible head-up display and a large 9-inch display audio system for the first time. The steering wheel was also added with a paddle shift.

The newly added plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 2.5-liter series four-cylinder gasoline atkinson cycle engine with an electric motor. The system's total output combined with engine and electric motors is 306 horsepower, 84 horsepower higher than the existing RAV4 hybrid model. The driving method will be equipped with an electronic 4WD system, "E-Four." In the case of electrically driven rear wheels, the maximum torque of the rear wheels is increased.

 

12.Volkswagen Touarek R.

Volkswagen will unveil its third-generation Touarek-based Touarek R. Model created by Volkswagen's high-performance brand R, the first plug-in hybrid model of the R brand, the best output among Volkswagen brands, the first ever four-wheel drive in the Volkswagen PHEV lineup, and the adoption of "all-wheel drive, 4MOTION." The 100 kW (136 PS) electric motor and 340 horsepower V6 gasoline TSI engine combine to produce a maximum output of 462 horsepower (PS, 340 kW) and start in E-MODE if the battery is fully charged. Up to 140 km/h can be driven in pure EV mode. The battery capacity (Lithium ion battery, capacity 14.1 kWh) is designed to sufficiently cover the daily commuting distance.

The Tuarek R has its own package of R brands in its interior and exterior design. The interior design first features an R logo on the illuminated stainless steel sill panel trim and head restraint etc., and includes seat leather finished with crystal gray, multi-fusion steering wheel with new leather material. In addition, Tuarek R, like the third-generation new Tuarek, comes with an Innovision cockfit that connects a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 15-inch Discover Premium Infotainment system display. In addition to basic driving information, the Innovision cockfit provides information on energy use in each mode.

 

13.Renault Megan Plug-in Hybrid

Renault announced that it will unveil the Megan E-TECH, the Megan plug-in hybrid model, for the first time.

The Renault Megan plug-in hybrid is the Megan's first electrification model and will be applied with "E-TECH," an electrification technology newly introduced by Renault Group. E-TECH was developed by sharing expertise in energy management with Renault F1 team and utilizing F1 know-how. It has also developed a brake system with Renault's EV development team that improves charging efficiency.

Renault E-TECH is the name for both hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, but Megan E-TECH is the name of the plug-in hybrid model. The next generation 1.6 litre series 4 cylinder petrol engine (up to 160 hp) combines two electric motors and a 400 V battery with a accumulator capacity of 9.8 kWh. One-pedal driving is also possible, which allows the vehicle to decelerate only with the accelerator pedal without operating the brake pedal. If "multi-sense" is selected from among driving modes, it automatically switches to EV mode in the city if the battery capacity is sufficient.

 

14.Polstar Precept Concept

Polstar, Volvo's high-performance electric vehicle brand, will unveil its new concept car, Precept. The new concept car, which means "teaching," is a vehicle that reflects the preceding HMI (human machine interface), the use of eco-friendly materials, and Polstar's new design language.

The design of the Polstar precept concept is a big difference from the previous version of Polstar1 and Polstar2. If Polstar's vehicles have been affected by Volvo design so far, the new concept car explains that it has pursued the brand's design beyond "Volvo's design."

It shows an independent style of front design, not a square-shaped radiator grille design that represents Volvo's image. The overall style is also reduced in the traditional straight image of Volvo, and the colorful curves are found everywhere. As Tor's hammer-shaped headlamp designs are inherited, they are being split up and down to show a new image. The end of the bonnet is shaped like a wing connecting the left and right fender, and a long connected LED rear lamp is also applied.

As a battery electric vehicle, the radiator grille is a design element that is not intended to breathe air. A system for ADAS functions is installed on the back of the grill, with two radar sensors and a high-resolution camera. Instead of drawing this part, Polstar is calling it the "Smart Zone." On the roof of the vehicle is a line that detects the surrounding situation. A port is fitted. Instead of a side mirror or a room mirror, a small camera is mounted on the side and rear of the vehicle to illuminate the images on the in-vehicle monitor.

 

15.Renault Kangoo ZE Concept

Renault Group will unveil the Renault Kangoo ZE Concept.

Renault is selling the Kangu-based battery electric vehicle "Kanggu ZE," a multipurpose commercial vehicle, in the European market. The Kanggu ZE concept is a proposal for the next generation of Kanggu, a concept car that can be expected to be released within this year. Renault said it will strengthen its design more significantly than existing models and become a vehicle that responds to changes in the business and mobility environment.

 

16.Mercedes Benz EQA

Mercedes Benz will unveil the EQA concept car of the battery electric vehicle version. In addition to battery electric vehicles, the EQA said it will also line up its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle version EQ Power. The EQA, which is expected to be launched later this year, is currently undergoing a hump test for battery and internal heat management and cold charging in northern Sweden.

Based on the slogan "Ambition 2039," Daimler AG is setting its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2039, and the EQ series is part of its lineup strategy to achieve this goal.

 

17.Renault Battery Electric Vehicle Concept

Renault Group will unveil its electric concept car "MORPHOZ," which reflects its vision for future mobility.

The concept car is Renault's proposal for multipurpose battery electric vehicles that can be used for personal needs and purposes. According to Renault Group, the design and technology embodied in the concept car "MORPHOZ" will be reflected in Renault's new car that will appear in years.
